The Government of Uganda has announced that elections for Local Council (LC) I, II, and Women Councils will be held in March and April 2026.
Minister of ICT and National Guidance Chris Baryomunsi told journalists at the Uganda Media Centre that the Cabinet has approved the exercise, which will officially commence once the Electoral Commission sets the polling dates.
According to Baryomunsi, the elections will follow the traditional lining-up voting method.
The terms for LC I, II, and Women Councils expired in July 2023 but have been extended multiple times due to delays.
The Ministry of Local Government and the Electoral Commission cited budgetary requirements of over UGX 58 billion needed to organize the elections.
