Tumushabe Backs Bobi Wine’s International Advocacy, Cites Governance Concerns

Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu in Geneva Summit

Governance activist Godber Tumushabe has defended opposition figure Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, saying international platforms remain legitimate avenues for raising concerns about governance and human rights in Uganda.

Speaking during the Weekly Press and Public Engagement hosted by the Radical New Bar (RNB) at the Uganda Law Society (ULS), the Chairperson of the Centre for Constitutional Governance (CCG) described Uganda as facing a governance crisis, arguing that recent electoral processes were marked by excessive military involvement.

Tumushabe said opposition leaders challenging what he termed authoritarian tendencies should make use of both local and international forums to highlight alleged human rights violations and governance challenges.

He also criticized the suspension of some civil society organizations, warning that decisions based on unverified intelligence allegations undermine the rule of law and weaken institutional credibility.

Meanwhile, Robert Kyagulanyi has continued to communicate with supporters through video messages, including a recent address to the Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy, where he accused government leaders of rights violations.

Kyagulanyi has reportedly been in hiding since January, as political tensions remain high.
