Katanga Murder Case: High Court Defers Key Ruling on Whether Accused Will Face Defence

Katanga Murder Case

The High Court in Kampala has postponed to February 26th, 2026, a ruling to determine whether five suspects accused in the murder of Kampala businessman Henry Katanga have a case to answer.

The decision had been expected today before Justice Rosette Comfort Kania, but court was informed that the ruling was not yet ready.

The prosecution, led by Jonathan Muwaganya, closed its case on December 2nd, 2025, after presenting testimony from 25 witnesses. State prosecutors maintain that the evidence presented is sufficient to require all five accused persons to be placed on their defence.

The trial, which commenced in July 2025, involves Katanga’s widow Molly Katanga, their daughters Martha Nkwanzi and Patricia Kakwanzi, the family’s shamba boy George Amanyire, and male nursing officer Charles Otai.

Molly Katanga faces a murder charge in connection with the fatal shooting of her husband on November 2nd, 2023, at the family residence on Chwa II Road in Mbuya, Nakawa Division.

Meanwhile, her two daughters, the family shamba boy, and the nursing officer are charged with being accessories after the fact and allegedly destroying evidence related to the crime.

The case has drawn significant public attention as the court prepares to determine whether the accused will be required to present their defence when proceedings resume later this month.
