Speaker Among Urges Ghanaian MPs to Defend African Cultural Values

The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has called on Ghanaian legislators to remain vigilant against forces she described as opposing the preservation of African cultural values and traditions.

Speaker Among made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation of Ghanaian lawmakers led by Ghana’s Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah Amoako.

The delegation is in Uganda on a benchmarking visit to study the organization of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, which Uganda has successfully hosted three times.

During the engagement, Speaker Among urged the visiting legislators not to be intimidated by foreign influences, but to stand firm in representing the voices of their people and safeguarding Africa’s cultural heritage.

In response, Andrew Asiamah Amoako commended the Parliament of Uganda for the guidance and support extended to his delegation as Ghana prepares to host the next Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference.

The conference is scheduled to take place in May 2026 in Accra, Ghana.
