MP Musira Urges Aspirants to Back Off Speakership Race After NRM Endorsement

Bubulo East County Member of Parliament, John Musira

Bubulo East County Member of Parliament, John Musira, has advised all intending aspirants eyeing the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 12th Parliament to step aside.

Musira’s remarks follow last week’s decision by the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) to endorse Speaker Anita Among and her Deputy, Thomas Tayebwa, for another term in office.

However, the endorsement has reportedly faced opposition from some members within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), particularly against Speaker Among’s candidature.

Those said to have expressed dissent include Minister of ICT Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of Microfinance Haruna Kasolo, Lydia Wanyoto, and others who are yet to formally declare their intentions.

Responding to the dissenting voices, Musira said that anyone wishing to challenge the current parliamentary leadership should wait until the expiry of the two-term tenure, which he described as the established norm.

He cautioned that premature challenges would only fuel friction and division within the party, urging unity and respect for party decisions.
