Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has announced that the compensation process for victims of the Kiteezi landfill is now complete, with payments set to be disbursed on 23rd December 2025.

In her end-of-year address to the public, KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzekii confirmed that a total of Shs 4.3 billion has been deposited into the bank accounts of the affected individuals.

This follows the clearance from the government’s chief valuer. Buzeki also warned victims about potential fraud, advising them to avoid individuals who may ask for commissions, claiming to have facilitated the paperwork.

In addition to the compensation news, Buzeki updated the public on the ongoing decommissioning process of the Kiteezi landfill.

As of now, 10 acres have been worked on, and KCCA has procured 230 acres of land in Buyala for the development of a modern, environmentally friendly landfill.

Looking back at the year 2025, Buzeki highlighted several achievements by KCCA, including the rehabilitation and construction of over 80 km of roads, drainage systems, and bridges under various projects.

The authority also completed the installation of traffic signals at several city junctions and removed five problematic junctions, including the busy Mulago junction.

KCCA also focused on education and healthcare, completing the construction of the Kiswa Health Maternity Ward, building new markets at Ggaba and Usafi, and distributing over 700 desks to public schools.

Additionally, efforts to upgrade Kasubi Primary School were successfully completed.

However, the executive director acknowledged that KCCA still faces significant challenges, including a shortage of garbage trucks, continued encroachment on wetlands, and poor waste disposal practices.

Despite these obstacles, Buzeki reaffirmed KCCA’s commitment to improving the city’s infrastructure and services in the coming year.
