The National Resistance Movement Presidential candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja to effect the step down of high voltage electricity transmission in Kiryandongo District to supplement the current power supply to reach the entire district.
He made the directive during his campaign rally at Karaganya Grounds in Kiryandongo District noting that the developments in the electricity sector are aligned to reach all homesteads and has guided on the further implementation of the initiative to support wealth creation and production.
Kiryandogo hosts Uganda’s largest hydro-power dam the Karuma Hydroelectric Power Plant that is supposed to produce 600 MW at full capacity. However residents within Kiryandongo decry of the limited access of electricity in the district, posing challenges for businesses in the busy and refugee- hosting Bweyale Town Council.
President Museveni also committed to elevate all government secondary schools in to Advanced level moving forward as part of efforts to further improve access to education for the people of Kiryandongo District thus reminding the people of Kiryandongo District on how the NRM has directly impacted their area and rallied them for more support.
Museveni also registered complaints from Kiryandongo residents about the implementation of the Parish Development Model Initiative in their district and ordered the line minister for local government Raphael Magyezi and the PDM secretariat to intervene.
He adds that each PDM beneficiary must receive one million shillings without any deductions in way of charges and instructed the Local government ministry on the same hence promising to counter any disruptions to the PDM initiative.
Kiryandongo District NRM Chairperson, Hon. Linos Ngopek, described the district as cosmopolitan and united by the peace ushered in by the NRM government however they lack a modern market in Bweyale and a modern hospital, requesting the upgrade of Kiryandongo Hospital to a highway referral hospital to meet the district’s growing needs.
