Catholic Youths warned against smoking and alcoholism

The Bishop of Nebbi Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Constantine Rupiny has warned the youth against behaviours that put their life at risk.

He pointed out smoking and alcoholism, among other vices whose consequences on their life are serious.

Bishop Rupiny said this during the homily at the opening mass for the 2025 National Youth Conference held in Gulu Archdiocese.

Bishop Rupiny however says amidst all this, young people can find hope in Jesus Christ on accepting their dangers to their health and general wellbeing.

The opening mass was attended by the Archbishop of Gulu, His Grace Raphael Wokorach, Archbishop emeritus, His Grace John Baptist Odama, Bishop Sanctus Lino Wanok of Lira diocese and youth chaplains among others.

This annual youth event Instituted by the Bishop’s conference in 1993 to cater for young people of this country who are unable to attend the World Youth Event is this year taking place at Sacred Heart Secondary school play grounds in Gulu under the theme: “You also are my witnesses because you have been with me” (Jn 15:27).

The event rotates in the nineteen catholic dioceses of Uganda, under the four ecclesiastical provinces and Gulu Archdiocese had last hosted the same function in 1997, before it was elevated to an Archdiocesan level.
