The opposition Common Man’s Party (CMP) has announced a list of 53 parliamentary candidates who will contest on the party’s ticket in the upcoming general elections.
However, the announcement was accompanied by strong accusations against the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), with CMP President Mubarak Munyagwa warning of alleged attempts to obstruct the party’s nomination process.
Speaking at a press briefing held today at the party headquarters in Lubaga, Munyagwa accused the IEC of deliberate sabotage, claiming that the Commission was actively working to block CMP’s scheduled nominations set for next week.
He further alleged that during the recent local government nominations, several CMP candidates were unfairly denied registration, with the Commission reportedly providing what he described as “fake excuses” to justify the rejections.
Munyagwa also disclosed that the party intends to field over 200 candidates nationwide and emphasized that CMP would remain highly vigilant to ensure that all its nominees are allowed to contest without interference or obstruction.
The IEC has not yet responded publicly to the allegations.
