NUP Begins Endorsement of Parliamentary Flag Bearers Amid Petitions in Mpigi

NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya.

The opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has launched the process of endorsing its parliamentary flag bearers, led by Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya.

The exercise, which runs until Friday, aims to verify aspirants’ signatures from their electorates to prevent disputes similar to those seen in recent local government elections.

Rovans Lwanyaga, a member of NUP’s Election Management Committee, is overseeing the verification of signatures before forwarding them to the party’s Secretary General’s office for final endorsement.

Over 100 aspirants have been endorsed so far today.

NUP has appealed to the Electoral Commission to respect and adhere to the party’s endorsed list of flag bearers ahead of the nomination dates set for October 22 and 23.

Meanwhile, NUP members from Mpigi district have submitted a petition to the party’s electoral management committee, expressing dissatisfaction with the incumbent Woman MP, Teddy Nambooze, being nominated for the party flag once again.

The petitioners accuse Nambooze of disrespecting NUP members, supporting the ruling NRM party, and deem her unfit to represent the party.

They have suggested Joan Lule or Sharon Mulungi as alternative flag bearers.

Rovans Lwanyanga assured that the committee will carefully consider the petition, verify the complaints, and make a final decision accordingly.
