The government, in partnership with Heifer International Uganda, has launched a new farming season under the Stimulating Agribusiness for Youth Employment (SAYE) project, aimed at empowering youth through enhanced access to agricultural technology and resources in the Busoga region.
While commissioning the project, Hon. Fred Kyakulaga Bwiino, the Minister of State for Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries, emphasized that the government is committed to helping young people find employment through farming.
William Matovu, the Country Director of Heifer International Uganda, shared that the project aims to support 250,000 youth, with over 50,000 already enrolled in the program.
However, Matovu acknowledged that challenges remain, including limited access to capital, land, and market opportunities, which continue to hinder progress for many youth in the sector.
