All is set for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to formalize his candidacy for the position of National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and as the party’s presidential flag bearer in the upcoming 2026 General Elections.
His official nomination is scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, July 5, 2025, at the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters located at Plot 13, Kyadondo Road in Kampala.
President Museveni’s recent extensive tours across the country aimed at assessing the implementation and impact of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in all 18 zones have further solidified his support.
During these visits, local leaders and community members strongly urged him to continue his leadership, citing his pivotal role in ensuring national stability and socio-economic progress since 1986.
Supporters emphasized that Museveni’s leadership has been fundamental to Uganda’s development, particularly in agriculture, healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
In line with NRM Electoral Commission regulations, all candidates vying for the positions of Party Chairman and Presidential flag bearer must secure at least 100 endorsement signatures from members of the National Conference across different regions.
President Museveni is reported to have fulfilled this requirement successfully.
However, the process has not been without incident. On Saturday, June 28, when President Museveni went to pick up his expression of interest forms, chaos erupted in Kampala’s central business district.
A group of youth, allegedly from the “Ghetto” and dressed in yellow NRM T-shirts, reportedly carried out robberies and assaults, leaving two people dead.
Police arrested about 30 suspects who have since been arraigned in court and remanded to Luzira Prison.
