PLU stages protest against German Ambassador over alleged political interference

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a pro-Muhoozi political civil group, has staged a protest campaign against the German Ambassador to Uganda, Matthias Schauer, accusing him of interfering in the country’s internal politics.

The protest, held today, follows growing tensions between Ugandan authorities and some foreign missions.

Security agencies have recently accused Ambassador Schauer of engaging in what they termed “subversive and undiplomatic activities.”

The PLU has also condemned a recent visit by European Union parliamentarians to opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, calling it an act of foreign meddling.

Speaking to the media at the PLU offices in Kololo before heading to the German Embassy, PLU Disciplinary Head and Igara East MP Michael Mawanda criticized the ambassador’s conduct.

“It is unfortunate that an ambassador who was sent here to promote peace is now engaging in activities that could disrupt the country’s stability,” Mawanda said.

He urged the German government to review Ambassador Schauer’s actions and, if necessary, consider recalling him.

PLU supporters welcomed the protest, echoing their leaders’ concerns.

They called on Ambassador Schauer to reconsider his approach to diplomatic engagement in Uganda, warning that his conduct could potentially lead to unrest.
