President Museveni extends financial boost to roadside vendors along Kampala-Mbarara highway

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has continued his financial support to roadside market vendors as part of efforts to improve household incomes and uplift small-scale enterprises.

For the past three years, the President through a dedicated team from State House has been visiting roadside markets along major highways to deliver what is known as the “Business Booster Package.” Under this initiative, each vendor receives UGX 100,000 in additional capital to support their businesses.

During a two-day visit from June 4th to 5th 2025, a team led by Senior Presidential Advisor on the Elderly, Princess Pauline Nassolo and Special Presidential Assistant on Women Affairs, Flora Kabibi reached vendors along the Kampala–Masaka–Mbarara highway.

The team distributed financial support to 607 vendors operating in nine roadside markets, including Kyabagonya, Kabalungi, and Kakinga in Lwengo District; Kyabakuza and Kabale-Bugonzi in Masaka; and Mbizzinya in Mpigi District.

Most of the vendors trade in agricultural produce, fast foods, chicken, roasted meat (muchomo), and beverages.

Princess Nassolo told the vendors that President Museveni remains committed to improving the livelihoods of all Ugandans.

She noted that initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga are designed to empower small business operators like market vendors to achieve financial stability.

Leaders and beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the continued support.

Kyabagonya Market Chairperson Kaggwa Yahya Ssentongo, along with vendors such as Nakigona Allen, Nuriat Namale, and Madrine Nassanga, thanked the President and pledged to invest the funds wisely to expand their businesses.
