Faridah Nambi urges Nalukoola not to appeal following election nullification in Kawempe North

Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola(MIDDLE) in court

Faridah Nambi Kigongo, the petitioner in the Kawempe North parliamentary election petition, has urged Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola to accept the High Court’s ruling that nullified his election and refrain from appealing the decision.

Nambi expressed strong confidence in the court’s verdict, pointing to overwhelming evidence presented during the trial showing illegal campaign activities, voter intimidation, and disenfranchisement.

She said the evidence clearly justified the nullification of Nalukoola’s election victory.

She stated that the court’s decision is a reflection of the rule of law and a positive step for democracy in the country.

Nambi called on all parties to respect the judgment and focus on ensuring a peaceful and credible by-election.

Despite welcoming the ruling, Nambi announced her intention to challenge the court’s decision regarding legal costs.

She noted that although she won the petition, no party was awarded costs, which she described as a setback considering the resources invested in the legal process.

Nambi also urged security agencies to enhance efforts to maintain peace during the upcoming by-election.

She emphasized the importance of a calm and orderly election not only for Kawempe North but also as a model ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The court’s decision has significant implications for Kawempe North, a constituency known for its competitive politics.

Observers expect the upcoming by-election to be closely contested and highly monitored by political stakeholders.

Nambi called on all candidates and supporters to prioritize peaceful campaigning and dialogue to avoid conflict and tension during the election period.

She emphasized that the people of Kawempe North deserve a representative elected through free and fair means and stressed the responsibility of all involved to uphold democratic principles in the upcoming vote.

As preparations for the by-election begin, political parties are expected to nominate candidates, with the election outcome likely to influence broader political dynamics in Kampala and the country.
