The Acting President of the People’s Front for Freedom (PPF) pressure group, Erias Lukwago, wants the chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission to issue summons and arrest the Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for contempt of its directive in relation to the arrest of Edward Ssebuufu, also known as Eddie Mutwe, a member of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).
Following the arrest of Ssebuufu, his picture surfaced on the CDF’s X handle, confirming that they had him.
This prompted the chairperson of the Human Rights Commission, Mariam Wangadya, to issue a directive under Article 53 (2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, directing the CDF, Gen. Muhoozi, to release Ssebuufu.
The order warns that failure to comply may result in contempt charges under Article 53 (1) of the constitution.
Now speaking to the press at Katonga on Monday, Lukwago says that if Wangadya’s statement was serious, she should act, but if she fails to act with the continued detention of Ssebuufu, it will be taken as mockery.
On the continued disappearance and kidnaps of Ugandans, Lukwago has disclosed that they have resolved to take this matter to the International Criminal Court and the East African Court to ensure that it comes to an end.
