The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has expressed strong disapproval regarding the continued abductions of civilians in the country.
He specifically cited the case of Edward Ssebuufu, also known as Eddie Mutwe, a member of the opposition National Unity Platform, who was reportedly kidnapped last month.
Mayiga challenged the government to take action against these acts, which he claimed were being carried out by high-ranking security officials.
He noted that a picture of Ssebuufu had later appeared on General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s X account, showing him well-groomed.
Speaking at the Buganda Great Parliament locally known as Lukiiko, Katikkiro Mayiga underscored the necessity of acknowledging and considering all perspectives from political figures to maintain peace in the country.
He advocated for positive collaboration among all political parties as Uganda prepares for the 2026 general elections, emphasizing the need to respect all involved parties, including journalists, who play a vital role in information dissemination during this crucial period.
Mayiga also extended his gratitude to the Buganda Cabinet and the Kabaka’s Chiefs from the 20 counties for their dedicated work in fostering unity and enhancing service delivery to improve the well-being and financial status of the populace.
Furthermore, Mayiga informed the Assembly that the Kingdom’s priority this year is to preserve the high quality of coffee to succeed in the international market.
He encouraged farmers to harvest only ripe coffee beans, adopt technology, and use irrigation equipment on their farms and plantations to avoid being dependent on seasonal and natural rainfall, which could disrupt their market supply.
He advised them not to wait for rain and to consider using tractors.
