UEDCL to conduct Pre-Qualification Exercises for power distribution companies

ERA’s Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Ziria Tibalwa Waako

The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) has announced that the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) will conduct pre-qualification exercises for companies holding Class A, B, X, and Z permits.

This move comes in the wake of the power transition from UMEME, aimed at enhancing power distribution across the country.

Companies with these permits support power distribution companies in extending, installing, and maintaining power infrastructure.

ERA’s Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Ziria Tibalwa Waako, emphasized the need for UEDCL to expedite the pre-qualification process to facilitate the expansion of power to all regions of Uganda.

Her remarks were made during the Installation Permit Conference for Class A, B, X, and Z permit holders held at Golden Tulip in Kampala.

Eng. Ziria also revealed plans to establish additional regional offices, which are intended to improve response times and address the slow handling of power-related issues that have been affecting the country’s development.

The initiative aims to boost the country’s power infrastructure, ensuring wider access and more reliable electricity supply nationwide.
