Pre-ticking ballot papers for Kawempe North By-election

Members of the top leadership within the Opposition National Unity Platform NUP and Journalists have been brutalized by the security officers at a spot in Nammere in Kawempe North where suspected pre-ticking of ballot papers in a residential home was taking place.

A group of National Unity Platform (NUP) leaders including David Lewis Rubongoyathe party Secretary General, the Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi and NUP flag bearer Erias Nalukoola Luyimbazi notified journalists about the alleged pre-ticking of ballot papers in relation to received information last night about a residential home guarded by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, where the illegal exercise was taking place. 

The group stormed the place around midday today where they found the small gate of a heavily guarded home open and forced their way inside the home its at this moment that soldiers and armed individuals in civilian clothes unleashed their wrath to the group.

Some journalists and Rubongoya were seriously assaulted and the vehicles of Nalukoola and Ssenyonyi were also shattered by stones. 

Spark TV’s camera operator, Steven Kibwiika, suffered severe injuries and was hospitalised after being assaulted. His equipment was also confiscated. 

Ssenyonyi has demanded a statement from the Electoral Commission to clarify whether it is indeed incharge of the Kawempe by-election.
