The highly anticipated trial of Molly Katanga, widow of the late businessman Henry Katanga, has encountered yet another delay, frustrating those following the case closely.
The trial, which was scheduled to resume on Monday morning, was adjourned almost immediately when court assessors failed to appear.
Officials have cited a communication mishap as the reason for the no-show, adding to a series of procedural setbacks that have plagued this high-profile case.
Molly Katanga has been in detention since her third bail request was denied two weeks ago.
Presiding Judge Rosette Comfort Kania, while acknowledging the defense’s request for bail, ultimately ruled in favor of the prosecution, citing an “advanced case“ against Katanga.
Judge Kania had previously promised a speedy trial to avoid further delays, but today’s adjournment has raised concerns about the continued setbacks in the proceedings.
The case has already been on hold since November 2024, following several delays and procedural issues.
This latest adjournment also comes as Judge Kania is preparing for her parliamentary vetting at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11,following her recent appointment to the Judicial Service Commission.
This delay adds another layer of uncertainty to a case that has already drawn significant public and media attention, and the courtroom will now reconvene at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, later than the usual schedule.
Supporters and critics alike are watching closely, as Katanga’s legal team continues to press for bail while the prosecution builds its case.
The proceedings are expected to resume with heightened scrutiny.
