The Uganda Police Force has issued an advisory to the commercial banks, schools and parents as schools reopened for the first term on Monday.
According to the Police Spokesperson, ACP Kituuma Rusoke, it is crucial for the banks to encourage customers to use electronic money transaction methods especially for parents and students to pay and avoid fraudsters who normally take advantage of such a season.
Rusoke says schools are supposed to have written procedures for returning of children to avoid negligence and also ensure children are safeguarded.
He further warns schools to ensure they have fire fighting equipment to avoid cases of fire outbreaks.
To parents, Rusoke urges guardians to ensure their children do not have weapons like knives and drugs in their luggage which they tend to pack when returning to schools.
Meanwhile, Police have warned against Kenyan scammers using Safaricom telephone lines to defraud Ugandans by sending scam online draw links.
ACP Kituuma Rusoke, the Police Spokesperson says that they have already identified these suspects with their phone lines and they include, Dr Howel Kirui on number +354735002953, Dominic Kosek on +254754033882, Ezra on +254787947086 and Kibeti Kinandet on +254105218443.
According to Rusoke, these scammers hack people’s WhatsApp lines and send persuasive messages followed by a draw link enticing people to win huge amounts of money.
He adds that the suspected scammers also access WhatsApp groups of a victim and defraud the members.
Rusoke however appeals to the public to avoid falling prey by having a sixth sense of not jumping into things they haven’t participated in, but to follow the advice from the experts of recognized telecommunication companies.
