Katikkiro Mayiga Urges Gov’t on Health Workers’ Welfare

Katikkiro Mayiga

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga has called upon the Government to prioritize the welfare and remuneration of health care providers if the health sector is to provide quality services to all Ugandans.

Katikkiro made this call while at Buganda Kingdom’s main seat at Bulange-Mengo in a meeting with members of the Uganda Kidney Association.

Mayiga expressed concern over the continued strikes where both the intern and medical doctors have been seen laying down their tools over poor pay yet the lives of patients depend on their services.

He says that the health care providers should top the list of Government priorities in its daily operations to avoid demoralization of health workers as they execute their duties in Uganda.

Katikkiro also appealed to the Government to come up with measures to curb theft of drugs from Government hospitals which deprives Ugandans of better health services before advising Ugandans to mind their diet and embrace medical checkups at least once a year to live healthily.

Meanwhile, the acting Vice Chairperson of the Uganda Kidney Association, Sam Lukwago appealed to lawmakers to come up with policies that will help those with kidney failure disease to receive care services in hospitals at a cheaper price.
