Bodaboda riders have been given an ultimatum of one week to acquire driving licenses or risk arrest and impounding of their motorcycles.
Fred Byamukama, the State Minister for Transport says effective August 1st 2024, Government lowered the cost of driving or riding licensesfrom Shs 60,000 to Shs 40,000, however many Bodaboda riders have remained adamant.
While addressing journalists during the weekly police press briefing, the Traffic Police Spokesperson, Michael Kananura said they have issued a standing order to all Traffic Police Officers to arrest riders without driving licensesbecause they are one of the leading groups causing accidents as they try to dodge arrest by the Traffic Police.
Kananura says there should be no excuse for not having a riding permit since the cost of the license is within their means and starting next week no one will be spared, in their quest of ensuring safety on the roads.
Meanwhile, Kananura disclosed that Traffic Police is also going to arrest Bodaboda passengers who board without helmets.
