The Catholic Church in Uganda has warned the general public against the continued degradation of the environment, due to the negative and harsh outcomes they will likely face.
This warning was made by the Vicar General of Kampala, Msgr. Charles Kasibante while presiding over mass at the climax of the Peace Month of September at a ceremony held in Entebbe Parish on Monday September 30th 2024.
He advised people against damaging the environment by littering plastics as it has been experienced hence leading into climate change and its adverse effects.
Furthermore, Msgr. Kasibante revealed that due to poor management of plastics and polythene bags, it has affected crop cultivation, resulting in poor harvests and food shortages in some parts of the country like the Karamoja region where people died of hunger.
The function was graced by some leaders such as; Michael Kakembo Mbwatekamwa, the Entebbe Municipality Member of Parliament, Regina Nakkazzi Bakitte, the Mayor for Nansana Municipality among others, who thanked the Catholic Church for her efforts to spread awareness of peace and justice in the country.
Kakembo noted that there is a lot of imbalance in service delivery in the country which needs to be resolved if people are to enjoy peace.
This year’s Peace Month was launched by the Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere at Nansana Parish on September 2nd 2024 under the theme; “using Artificial Intelligence for betterment of Humanity and pursuit of peace in the world”.
