The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) is set to offer a range of identity-related services during its first National Identity Symposium and Expo at Kololo Independence Grounds from September 29th to 30th.

NIRA Registrar Claire Ollama says the event will mark 100 years since Uganda’s boundaries were defined in 1926, a milestone she says is significant in determining citizenship by birth.

She says the expo will bring together various government agencies to provide services including birth and death registration, marriage registration, change of particulars and national identity card processing.

Ollama says applicants seeking to change their personal details will still be required to meet all legal requirements, including obtaining statutory declarations and deed polls where applicable. However, eligible applicants will be able to complete the process and receive their national identity cards within three days.

The expo will also feature discussions on contested citizenship among communities living along Uganda’s borders.

Other services and activities at the event will include health services, banking, tax registration and public feedback sessions.
