The designated King of Tooro, Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, has appointed Paul Nyakaana Businge Akiiki as his interim Principal Personal Secretary and spokesperson.

In a statement dated September 15, Nyabongo said Nyakaana would immediately take charge of his official communication and coordinate his daily engagements as he prepares to assume the responsibilities of the Tooro monarchy.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Nyakaana said his appointment is intended to support the King-designate in managing his official duties and communication during the transition.

He also announced that Nyabongo has discontinued the personal social media accounts he previously operated before his selection as King.

Nyakaana urged members of the public to use the official communication channels provided by the King’s office when seeking to contact Nyabongo.

In his September 15 statement, Nyabongo provided Nyakaana’s contact details and listed the official social media platforms through which members of the public can communicate with the King’s office.

Nyabongo was announced on September 9 as the successor to the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died in the United States while receiving medical treatment.

On Tuesday, the head of the Babiito Royal Clan, Musuuga Charles Kamurasi, announced that Nyabongo will be inaugurated and crowned as the new Omukama on September 29.

Nyakaana holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Makerere University and has previously worked with several banks and non-governmental organisations.
