The High Court in Mpigi will tomorrow, September 16, 2026, deliver its ruling on an application by Hillary Kiyaga Innocent, who contested the Mawokota North parliamentary seat in the January 2026 General Elections.

Kiyaga sued the Electoral Commission and the declared winner, Amelia Kyambadde, alleging electoral malpractice that he claims affected the outcome of the election.

Through his lawyers from Ssebowa and Company Advocates and Lukwago and Company Advocates, Kiyaga asked court to order the Electoral Commission to provide documents showing the election results upon which Kyambadde’s declaration as winner was based.

He is also seeking access to other election materials, including documents on which votes were recorded, as well as information relating to Electoral Commission officials and other personnel who conducted the election.

Kiyaga’s lawyer, Francis Ssebowa, told Justice Jameson Karemani that the Electoral Commission had failed to provide the requested documents, which he said are crucial to the petition.

However, Electoral Commission lawyer Samuel Sserwanga opposed the application, arguing that it lacks merit. He told court that the requested documents had already been availed, but said Kiyaga had not specifically identified some of the materials he was seeking and had also failed to pay the prescribed fees.

Sserwanga asked court to dismiss the application and order Kiyaga to meet the costs incurred by all the respondents.

Justice Karemani is expected to deliver his ruling on the application tomorrow, September 16. The hearing of the main election petition has been adjourned to September 21, 2026, when the parties are expected to return to court.
