President Yoweri Museveni has sent condolences to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband, Hafidh Hassan, describing his passing as a “great loss” to the Tanzanian leader and her family.

In a condolence message, Museveni said he received the news of Hafidh Hassan’s death with “a lot of sadness”, conveying condolences on behalf of the people of Uganda, his family and himself to President Samia, her family and the people of Tanzania.

Museveni said he had witnessed President Samia’s commitment to the development of Tanzania and Africa since he first came to know her when she served as Vice-President of Tanzania and later as President.

He also highlighted the strong bilateral relations and cooperation between Uganda and Tanzania, citing several joint projects and areas of partnership.

These include trade, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), the Murongo-Kyikagate mini-hydropower station, road projects in Tanzania, the Masaka-Bukoba transmission line and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).

Museveni said these initiatives reflect the longstanding ties and shared interests between Uganda and Tanzania.

He extended his condolences to President Samia, her family and the people of Tanzania during this period of mourning.
