Tooro Kingdom officials have announced that the late Omukama, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, will be laid to rest on Saturday, September 12.
The burial date coincides with the anniversary of his coronation, creating a significant and sombre milestone for the kingdom and its people.
Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV ascended to the throne on September 12, 1995, at the age of just three, following the death of his father, Patrick Olimi Kaboyo III.
His reign, spanning more than three decades, was marked by efforts to preserve the traditions of the Tooro Kingdom while promoting its development.
The head of the royal clan, Charles Kamurasi, announced the funeral arrangements on Wednesday during a meeting with Tooro clan heads at the royal palace in Karisika, Fort Portal.
Kamurasi said the Omukama’s body will be flown from Entebbe to the royal palace in Fort Portal on Friday morning, September 4.
In a notable protocol, Kamurasi revealed that President Yoweri Museveni will be the only person permitted to pay his respects to the late Omukama at Entebbe, following a request by the President.
The Kingdom Prime Minister, Calvin Armstrong Rwomire, said that after the President pays his respects, the body will be transported to Kyegegwa District, where a procession will accompany the casket to the royal palace in Fort Portal.
The late Omukama will then be laid to rest on September 12, the same date on which he was crowned king in 1995.
