Parliamentary Police has arrested another group of youths from Rooted in Resistance after they marched to Parliament and the R.R. Pearl Tower One offices in Kampala to deliver petitions demanding reforms in Uganda’s oil and economic policies.

The arrests follow a similar attempt on August 10, when police arrested four people who had also sought to deliver a petition.

The latest group, comprising more than 20 youths carrying placards and banners, was intercepted by police as they approached Parliament. The protesters scattered after being confronted by the officers, with several later arrested.

The youths are demanding an oil-free economy, urging the government to shift investment towards productive sectors and guarantee economic freedom for all Ugandans.

They are also calling on Parliament to review petroleum policies and investment priorities and redirect national resources towards productive sectors capable of generating sustainable and widely shared wealth.

The arrests come as Uganda prepares for first oil production, which the government expects to begin before the end of the year.
