Parliament has observed a moment of silence in honour of the late Omukama of Tooro Kingdom, Rukirabasaija Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
The moment of silence was led by Muwada Nkunyingi, Chairperson of the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE), during the committee’s proceedings on Friday.
At the time, the COSASE committee was receiving officials from Uganda Airlines to respond to queries raised in the Auditor General’s report for the financial year 2024/25.
Following the moment of silence, Nkunyingi invited former Uganda Airlines Chief Executive Officer Jennifer Bamuturaki, who is also a subject of Tooro Kingdom, to pay tribute to the late King.
Bamuturaki shared a few words in remembrance of King Oyo, as members of the committee joined the people of Tooro and the rest of the country in mourning the monarch.
King Oyo ascended to the Tooro throne in 1995 at the age of just three, becoming one of the world’s youngest reigning monarchs.
He died at the age of 34, sparking widespread grief across Tooro Kingdom and Uganda.
Further details regarding the funeral arrangements and other traditional rites are expected to be communicated by the Tooro Kingdom and the royal family.
