COSASE Summons Uganda Airlines Over Shs230 Billion Losses

COSASE Summons Uganda Airlines chaired by Hon Muwadde Nkunyingi

The Parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) has summoned Uganda Airlines to appear before the committee this Thursday at 8 a.m. to respond to several audit queries raised by the Auditor General.

The summons were issued by the committee, chaired by Kyadondo East MP Muwada Nkuyingi, after the national carrier failed to appear for a previously scheduled interface without providing an explanation.

COSASE is seeking answers to several concerns raised in the Auditor General’s 2024/2025 report, including reported losses of about Shs230 billion, accumulated debts and questions surrounding the airline’s government shareholding despite public investment of approximately Shs1.9 trillion.

Nkuyingi said accounting officers have a responsibility to account for public funds and should not evade parliamentary scrutiny.

Citing the Parliamentary Rules of Procedure, Nkuyingi directed that the summons be served by police to ensure that Uganda Airlines appears before the committee without fail.

The airline is expected to respond to the audit queries and provide clarification on its financial position and the management of public funds invested in the carrier.
