Schools Close for Second-Term Holiday as St. Peter’s Nsambya Urges Students to Stay Disciplined

Most primary and secondary schools are today and tomorrow sending learners home for the second-term school holiday.

According to the Ministry of Education and Sports’ 2026 school calendar, the second-term holiday runs from August 21 to September 13, with the third term scheduled to begin on September 14 and end on December 4, 2026.

At St. Peter’s Senior Secondary School, Nsambya, the second term officially came to an end today with a thanksgiving Mass, during which students were urged to remain committed to God and seek His guidance and providence throughout the holiday.

The Mass was led by the school chaplain, Rev. Fr. Wenceslaus Kkonde, who expressed concern over students who tend to drift away from God and abandon discipline during holidays.

Fr. Kkonde cautioned learners against becoming careless, irresponsible or disrespectful towards their parents, guardians and colleagues while at home. He encouraged them to maintain good conduct and continue living by the values instilled in them at school.

He also urged students to appreciate their parents and guardians for supporting their education and meeting their various school requirements, saying that cultivating a grateful heart is an important virtue that every student should embrace.

Meanwhile, the school head teacher, Mrs. Asiimwe Elizabeth, appealed to parents and guardians to closely monitor and protect their children throughout the holiday.

She particularly cautioned parents about excessive and uncontrolled use of social media, warning that unrestricted access to social media platforms could negatively influence children and expose them to harmful or inappropriate content.

The school also recognized students who excelled academically. Best-performing learners were awarded prizes, while others received scholarships to support their continued education.

As schools break for the holiday, parents and guardians have been encouraged to ensure that learners use the period responsibly, remain disciplined and return to school ready for the third term.
