Major Bilal Katamba, Public Information Officer of the UPDF 4th Infantry Division and spokesperson for Recruitment Team Six

A total of 201 shortlisted applicants are competing for 97 slots in the ongoing Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) recruitment exercise in Kitgum and Lamwo districts.

Major Bilal Katamba, Public Information Officer of the UPDF 4th Infantry Division and spokesperson for Recruitment Team Six, said 129 applicants were shortlisted in Kitgum to compete for 51 available slots, while Lamwo has 72 applicants competing for 46 positions.

Katamba said the quotas allocated to the two districts were determined based on their population figures from the previous national census.

The recruitment exercise is targeting young Ugandans aged between 18 and 22 years for enlistment into the regular force, while professionals can be recruited up to the age of 28.

Applicants seeking to join the regular force are required to have completed Senior Four, while professional applicants must possess relevant diplomas or degrees.

All applicants are required to present valid National Identification Cards, original academic documents and handwritten applications, in addition to documents submitted online.

They must also provide recommendations from their Local Council One leaders as part of the verification process to establish that they have no criminal record.

Katamba said the high number of applicants compared to the available slots will make the selection process competitive, with only the best-performing candidates expected to proceed to the next stage.
