The High Court Criminal Division in Kampala has convicted Lujja Bbosa Tabula and Noah Lugya, alias Fake, for the murder of former Ndiga Clan leader Engineer Daniel Lwomwa Bbosa.
The two pleaded guilty to the murder charges before Justice David Matovu and confirmed that the prosecution’s account of the case was accurate.
Tabula, who was accused of masterminding the February 2024 assassination, asked the court for forgiveness, while Lugya also admitted responsibility for the killing.
Justice Matovu convicted the duo under Sections 171 and 172 of the Penal Code Act after prosecutors Joseph Kyomuhendo, Marion Ben-Bela and Caroline Tabaro presented the State’s case.
Three other accused persons—Harriet Nakiguli, Joseph Nakabake and Ezra Mayanja—denied the charges and will face trial.
Prosecution told the court that Engineer Bbosa was shot dead on February 25, 2024, at Kikandwa in Lungujja as he returned home from a clan function in Katosi, Mukono District.
According to the State, armed assailants riding a motorcycle attacked Bbosa’s Toyota Prado near his residence as he travelled with his wife, Gladys Nabiseke Bbosa, and their house help.
Boda-boda riders pursued the attackers and intercepted them in Bulabega Zone. One of the alleged attackers, Enock Sserunkuma, alias Munaku, was killed by an angry mob, while Lugya was rescued by security forces and taken to Mulago Hospital.
Police later recovered an AK-47 rifle, which ballistic tests linked to cartridges recovered from the crime scene.
The prosecution said Lugya confessed to participating in the killing on Tabula’s instructions and identified Sserunkuma as the gunman.
The State also relied on CCTV and surveillance footage, call-data records and forensic evidence, which it said showed that the suspects communicated frequently and held planning meetings between November and December 2023.
Investigators linked the murder to a leadership dispute, alleging that Tabula opposed Bbosa’s position as head of the Ndiga Clan and believed the leadership was his birthright. The prosecution further alleged that Tabula supplied the weapon used in the murder.
Following the convictions, Justice Matovu adjourned the case to allow the two convicts to make mitigation submissions before sentencing.
