The Minister for Internal Affairs, Professor Ephraim Kamuntu, has pledged to work towards making Uganda a crime-free country.

Kamuntu made the commitment while handing over office to the newly appointed Minister of State for Internal Affairs, Juma Witonzi, at the Ministry headquarters in Kampala.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Kamuntu said Witonzi’s people-centred leadership and experience in community engagement will be instrumental in strengthening security and improving service delivery across the country.

He urged the new Minister of State to work closely with the ministry’s leadership and other security agencies to address challenges affecting the country’s internal security.

Witonzi, who was sworn into office at State House Entebbe yesterday, pledged to transform the Ministry of Internal Affairs through digitization and improved service delivery.

He identified teamwork, fighting corruption and ensuring equal access to government services without political, religious or other forms of discrimination as some of his key priorities.

Witonzi takes over from General David Muhoozi, who served as Minister of State for Internal Affairs from June 2021 until May 2026.

The new minister says his focus will be on building a responsive ministry that puts the needs of Ugandans at the centre of its operations.
