PFF to Seek Court Approval for Besigye’s Transfer Abroad for Specialized Treatment

Dr Kizza Besigye

The opposition People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has announced plans to petition the court for permission to transfer its leader, Dr Kizza Besigye, abroad for specialized medical treatment.

The party says Dr Besigye’s health deteriorated after he collapsed in court last week and was subsequently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

Speaking to journalists at the party headquarters on Katonga Road in Kampala on Friday, PFF Attorney General Moses Tugume said doctors at Mulago have not yet established the exact cause of Dr Besigye’s condition.

Tugume said the party believes that seeking specialized treatment abroad could improve Dr Besigye’s chances of recovery.

He added that the party’s legal team is preparing a court application seeking permission for the transfer, arguing that the move is necessary to safeguard his life.

Meanwhile, PFF member Dr Nicolas Kamara criticized the court for allegedly preventing Dr Besigye’s personal physician, Dr Olive Kobusingye, from administering first aid after he collapsed in court.

Kamara said the incident underscored the need for urgent intervention to protect Dr Besigye’s health and wellbeing.
