Electoral Commission Begins Nationwide Nomination of LC1 Chairperson Candidates

The Electoral Commission has officially commenced the nationwide nomination of candidates seeking to contest for the position of LC1 Chairperson.

The announcement was made today by the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama, through the Commission’s Public Relations Officer, Julius Mucunguzi.

According to the Commission, the nomination exercise began on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, and will run until Sunday, 19 July 2026. The exercise is being conducted daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Mucunguzi said nominations are taking place at Sub-county, Town Council, and Municipal headquarters across the country.

The Electoral Commission stated that aspiring LC1 Chairperson candidates must be Ugandan citizens, residents of the villages they intend to represent, and at least 18 years of age.

The Commission further clarified that there are no academic qualification requirements and no nomination fees for candidates seeking election to the LC1 Chairperson position.

The Electoral Commission has encouraged all eligible aspirants to complete the nomination process within the stipulated period.
