The Institute of the Brothers of Christian Instructions Kisubi has been recognized as one of Uganda’s leading institutions in the education sector, as it marks nearly a century of service in educating, mentoring and shaping professionals.
The institute arrived in Uganda in 1926 at the invitation of missionaries and has since played a significant role in the country’s education development, providing learning opportunities from nursery level to university.
Speaking to the media at the Kisubi Mother House, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Kisubi, Bro. Dr. Deogratias Mugema, described the institution’s journey as a success story, highlighting its contribution to holistic education in Uganda.
Bro. Mugema said the institute has trained thousands of Ugandans through nursery, primary, secondary, tertiary and university education, equipping them with knowledge and skills that have contributed to national development.
He added that the institution remains relevant and committed to continuing its mission of providing quality education and character formation.
Brother John Ssenkabirwa, chairperson of the centennial organising committee, said the celebrations will include the construction of a centennial monument and the establishment of a comfortable retirement residence for elderly and ailing Brothers.
According to the committee treasurer, Bro. Rogers Kazibwe, more than Shs6 billion is required to complete the long-awaited centennial building, which will include facilities such as a gym, intensive care unit, chapel, 34 self-contained rooms and a dining hall.
Dr Andrew Wise Ssentale, one of the chief fundraisers, said the campaign has so far collected more than Shs400 million. He added that the fundraising drive will continue targeting individuals, companies, organisations and schools that have benefited from the institution’s services.
The centennial celebrations are expected to highlight the Brothers’ contribution to Uganda’s education sector over the past 100 years and their vision for the future.
