The wife of former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Zawedde Lukwago Nalubwama, has appealed for his transfer to Mulago National Referral Hospital for medical care while in detention, saying prison conditions are worsening his health and restricting access to his personal doctor.
Zawedde said Lukwago is familiar with his treatment needs and requires continuous medical attention.
She argued that a hospital-based detention arrangement, under security supervision, would ensure he receives appropriate care while his case continues in court.
She also expressed concern over the emotional strain on their family, saying they are struggling to cope with the situation while remaining hopeful that he will be granted bail.
Meanwhile, Uganda Law Society Vice President Anthony Asiimwe has called for the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of charges against Lukwago, accusing the Directorate of Public Prosecutions of abusing prosecutorial discretion.
Asiimwe warned that members of the legal fraternity are prepared to escalate protests, including picketing the DPP’s offices, until the charges are dropped and accountability is provided.
