Eight Suspects Arrested Over Killing of Rugby Player Sydney Gongodyo

Police have disclosed the identities of five additional suspects arrested in connection with the killing of professional rugby player Sydney Gongodyo.

According to the Uganda Police Force, the latest arrests bring the total number of suspects in custody to eight as investigations into the alleged mob killing continue.

The newly arrested suspects have been identified as Noordin Ssebagala, Roden Ayebazibwe, Juliet Namukose, Elly Mondoni, and Herbert Twinomujuni.

They join Perigrino Katsigazi, Darlious Tayebwa, and Hannington Tugume, who were previously arrested in connection with the incident that occurred on June 5, 2026.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala said investigations are ongoing and that security agencies are working to identify and apprehend other individuals believed to have participated in the attack.

Police have appealed to members of the public with information that could assist investigations to cooperate with authorities as efforts continue to establish the circumstances surrounding Gongodyo’s death.

The arrest of the additional suspects marks a significant development in the case, which has attracted widespread public attention following the death of the rugby player.

Authorities have pledged to ensure that all those found responsible are brought to justice.
