The Archbishop of Kampala, Paul Ssemogerere, has officially launched the National Youth Convention 2026 at Lubaga Cathedral.
The National Youth Convention will be hosted by the Kampala Archdiocese from December 7 to 14, 2026, at YES Centre Nsambya under the theme: “Take Courage, I Have Overcome the World” (John 16:33).
The convention is expected to bring together youths from across the Catholic Church in Uganda to reflect on the teachings of the Church while also sharing experiences and acquiring technical, leadership, and soft skills aimed at promoting nation-building.
World Youth Day was established by Pope John Paul II on December 20, 1985, as a global platform to celebrate and engage young Catholics around the world.
Speaking during the launch, Archbishop Ssemogerere said the vision of the Pontiff, inspired by the Holy Spirit, was intended to bring young people together to begin a new chapter in life through dialogue, deepening their faith, and sharing knowledge and skills on how to navigate life in an increasingly secularized world.
The Archbishop encouraged the youth to use their energy productively by developing their talents and strengthening their shared Catholic identity in response to contemporary challenges.
He, however, expressed concern over increasing moral and social vices affecting young people today, noting that there is a need for individual reflection and conversion in order to pave the way for spiritual renewal.
