Muhoozi Withdraws Support for Among, Tayebwa in Speaker Race

The National Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda, Muhoozi Kainerugaba

The National Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has withdrawn his support for Anita Annet Among and Thomas Tayebwa for the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament respectively.

The development was confirmed by the Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda, David Kabanda, while addressing journalists at the PLU Secretariat.

Kabanda said he was formally retracting an earlier communication issued on March 11, 2026, in which General Muhoozi had publicly endorsed the two leaders for the top parliamentary positions.

Through Kabanda, General Muhoozi directed legislators of the 12th Parliament to wait for the candidates that Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is also the National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), will officially present for the positions before offering their support.

The move is expected to significantly reshape the race for Speaker and Deputy Speaker ahead of the commencement of the new parliamentary term.
