Teachers Urged to Include Road Safety Lessons in School Parades to Protect Children

Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura

Teachers have been urged to incorporate road safety tips into daily school parades as part of efforts to reduce road crashes involving children.

The call came at the conclusion of the “Safe Kids, Safe Future” road safety sensitization campaign, which ended today with a high-impact activation at Kibuye Primary School in Kampala.

The campaign reached thousands of pupils in Fort Portal, Hoima, Mbarara, and Mbale, equipping them with essential life-saving road safety knowledge aimed at improving awareness among young road users.

Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura said children remain among the most vulnerable road users, noting that many of the crashes involving them are preventable.

He emphasized the important role of schools in consistently reinforcing road safety messages during daily assemblies and parades.

At the same event, Steven Turyarugayo, Public Relations Consultant for the Intelligent Transport Monitoring System, donated helmets and reflector jackets to selected pupils to enhance their safety while using roads.
