Bishop Kakooza Pays Tribute to Fr. Anthony Gesuula’s Legacy

The Bishop of Lugazi, Rt. Rev. Christopher Kakooza, has praised the late Fr. Anthony Gesuula as a cooperative, genuine, transparent, and steadfast servant of God whose contribution to the Church is irreplaceable. He previously served as the diocesan treasurer general.

While leading the Requiem Mass during the send-off at Namagunga, Bishop Kakooza noted that the diocese registered significant development during Fr. Gesuula’s tenure as Diocesan Treasurer General. He added that the late priest leaves behind a lasting legacy of dedication and service.

The bishop further described Fr. Gesuula as a humble, soft-spoken, and intelligent leader who showed love to all and will be greatly missed.

Family members, led by Kiirya Moses and Robert Muyinda, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a beloved relative who had been a strong pillar in their family.

Meanwhile, Bernard Ssekamaanya, a brother of the deceased, spoke about the circumstances surrounding Fr. Gesuula’s death.

Fr. Emmanuel Mwerukande, the Parish Priest of Our Lady of Fatima Mubende and a classmate of the late priest at St. Mbaaga’s Seminary Ggaba, described him as hardworking and deeply committed. He recalled him as both a “striker and playmaker” in life—someone who inspired others to work tirelessly.

Fr. Anthony Gesuula was born on 10 May 1951 in Kayunga Parish. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1990 by Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala. From 2007, he served as the diocesan Chancellor and held various other positions within the Church.

According to the medical report, he died of a pulmonary embolism.
