The President of Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), Jimmy Akena, has strongly criticized President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for failing to effectively address corruption in the country.
Speaking to journalists at the party’s headquarters in Kampala, Akena emphasized that it is impossible to tackle corruption while the President continues to associate with and support individuals accused of corrupt practices.
Akena also condemned the reported decision to award National Resistance Movement (NRM) Members of Parliament 100 million shillings each as facilitation following the recent Kyankwanzi Retreat.
He argued that such actions send a damaging message to the public and undermine the country’s efforts to promote accountability and transparency.
The opposition leader called on the government to demonstrate genuine political will in the fight against corruption, stressing that this effort must start with the nation’s top leadership.
