NIRA Launches Nationwide Roadshow to Fast-Track Issuance of 10.3 Million National IDs

NIRA Registrar Claire Ollama

The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has announced a nationwide roadshow aimed at accelerating the issuance of 10.3 million national identity cards, in response to rising demand and congestion at district offices.

Citizens across the country have recently experienced long queues and extended waiting times as they seek registration and ID collection services.

Speaking about the initiative, NIRA Registrar Claire Ollama said the roadshow will complement existing district office services by bringing registration and ID-related services closer to communities in selected districts.

The exercise is set to begin in Wakiso on April 14, 2026, before expanding to other regions, including West Nile, Eastern, Northern, and Western Uganda.

Under the initiative, mobile “ID clinics” will provide a range of services, including issuance of ready national IDs, new registrations, correction of registration errors, and general citizen support.

Ollama emphasized that the outreach is not a replacement for district offices but a complementary effort designed to close access gaps and improve overall service delivery.

She encouraged citizens who have not yet collected their IDs, particularly those facing challenges reaching district offices, to take advantage of the upcoming mobile services.
