Politicians console NUP’s Mufumbiro for the passing of his dear wife

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has joined the Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) to mourn the death of Edith Katende, a wife to the party’s Deputy Spokesperson, Waiswa Mufumbiro.

This morning the NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu through his X (Twitter) announced the death of Edith Katende who succumbed to cancer an ailment that has affected her for a while.

Now addressing journalists at UPC headquarters Arach Sharon the party spokesperson expressed condolences to NUP’s Waiswa who is currently in prison, Katende’s family, and friends for the loss of their loved one.

Sharon used the moment to call on government to urgently improve cancer treatment services in Uganda, noting that many lives continue to be lost due to lack of specialized health care and treatment facilities.

Sharon emphasized the need for better and equipped hospitals, increased funding for the health sector, and strengthened early diagnosis programs to save lives.

Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro is on remand since January 2026 over charges of unlawful drills at the NUP headquarters at Kavule in Makerere.

Mufumbiro, has written the Chief Justice Dr. Fravian Zeija requesting for temporary release from custody following the death of his wife, Edith Mufumbiro Katende.

According to Rubongoya and family representative Kato Mufumbiro, Mufumbiro has been held in custody despite maintaining his innocence. They allege that his detention is politically motivated.
