Christians under the Uganda Joint Christian Council drew public attention as they marched from various parts of Kampala in an Ecumenical Public Way of the Cross.
The faithful began their journey from several points, including St. Nicolas Namugoona, Martyrs Church Katwe, All Saints Cathedral Nakasero, Namirembe Cathedral, Lubaga Cathedral, St. Peters Parish Nsambya, and Christ the King Parish Kampala, before converging at Old Kampala Playground for a joint prayer service.
The Archbishop of Kampala, Paul Ssemogerere, who led the Catholic congregation from St. Mary’s Lubaga Cathedral, urged Christians to embrace self-reflection, forgiveness, and love for one another.
He also condemned a gruesome attack that occurred at a daycare centre in Ggaba, Makindye Division, where a 39-year-old man, identified as Christopher Okello Onyum, allegedly killed four toddlers.
The children, Keisha Alungat, Gideon Oteko, Odeka Ryan, and Ignitious Seruyange, were reportedly stabbed to death at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre. All were aged between one and two-and-a-half years.
Speaking at the event, the State Minister for Kampala, Kabuye Kyofatogabye, said the government is proud of the progress made, noting that over one trillion shillings has been invested in the refurbishment of the city.
Meanwhile, Kalungu West MP Joseph Ssewungu and Lubaga South MP-elect Eugenia Nassolo called on Ugandans to undergo total conversion and commit themselves to the development of the country.
