Uganda’s management of water resources faces a significant challenge in coordinating efforts among stakeholders, a concern highlighted by Hon. Sylus Aogon, Chairperson of the Uganda Parliamentary Forum for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and MP for Kumi District.
Speaking during a review of the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Action Plan, Hon. Sylus emphasized the need for improved coordination to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6.5.1 by 2030.
He noted that the IWRM Action Plan seeks to address gaps in policy, monitoring, and financing, ensuring that water resources are managed sustainably and equitably across the country.
Meanwhile, Eng. Albert Orijabo, Assistant Commissioner in the Ministry of Water and Environment, highlighted that the IWRM framework has successfully brought stakeholders together, promoting effective water resource management at the local level.
